Fine Art Books, Why You Will Love Them

There are photo albums. And then there are Fine Art Books. Hand-bound and using the finest quality cover materials, papers and inks, Fine Art Books have captured the attention of discerned couples and wedding photographers all over the world.

Here are the reasons why you should consider them to capture your wedding memories forever. Or head straight to our exclusive offers!

Traditional techniques the modern way

Every Fine Art Book album is handmade to order in Yorkshire, United Kingdom. So brides and grooms worldwide are sure each album is truly unique – whether you have bespoke requests, want lots of personalisation or just want to be certain you’ll get an exceptional finish.

It begins with a sustainable approach to sourcing quality materials. Think FSC-approved bamboo, eco-leather from UK’s last tanneries to reduce carbon footprint, or even green electricity produced from renewable sources. That’s a straight win for mother earth.

Although age-old production techniques are still being used, the climate-controlled workshop also applies modern lean manufacturing principles. This reduces the distance between each process to improve both efficiency and quality.

We were surprised to find out that during production, each crafted album is inspected by at least seven pairs of eyes! Talk about stringent quality control.

Wide choices of cover materials and personalisation

The album cover gives the very first glimpse of the story that lies within. It sets the scene and remains as a backdrop as the album is held and viewed time and time again – nothing worse than a worn out cover to spoil the entire experience.

With no less than 65 choices of colours, materials and textures, we love that choices span from traditional to on-trend and from demure to bold. No couple is being left aside, as you will even find vegan-friendly fabrics!

As a personalised finishing touch, you can add names, dates, bespoke emblems of initials, and more to your cover, using time-honoured methods such as debossing, engraving or even gold and silver letter foiling. Who knew covers could be such a great canvas for letting our creative minds run free?

Preserving colour accuracy

Let’s talk technical for a bit. What are RGB and CMYK colour spaces, and why does it matter for photo albums? RGB refers to the primary colours of light that are used in monitors, screens, and digital cameras: Red, Green and Blue. CMYK refers to the primary colours of pigment used in commercial printing: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black.

Since screen images are in RGB and printed images are in CMYK, moving from one mode to another involves some “translation” work to ensure colour accuracy. If not done properly, we risk ending up with a disastrous discrepancy between those wedding pictures that look stunning on screen, and what our friends and families will see in our dearest album!

Thankfully, behind each Fine Art Book lies deep printing experience: use of HD pigment printing with superior highlight and shadow details; ICC colour profiles developed to achieve the very best image quality and prevent ink transfer; and end-to-end calibration to increase colour accuracy.

Tip for advanced users: When selecting pictures, calibrate your monitors using an industry standard device such as i1Display or ColorMunki if possible, or let your experience photographer give a hand. This helps to reproduce your colours on paper as precisely as possible.

The fine art of paper selection

The experience of leafing through an album full of cherished images is as much about the feel as it is about the look. So it is important to make sure albums are as lovely on the inside as they are on the outside.

If like us you tremble with excitement at the mere mention of papers’ exotic names – from the high-gloss Hahnemuehle Fine Art Baryta 325 to the uniquely textured Awagami Unryu 55 – you’ll also like the fact that with a full range of 12 fine art papers, there’s an suitable paper choice for every album.

For example, Fine Art Books are only available in Art White 200, because the paper’s robustness prevents ink transfer and its white point aids contrast and saturation. Now you know!

With the assistance of your photographer, unleash your creativity with lay flat binding for an almost invisible crease, and the freedom to design across-the-crease and with full bleed.
